What are the benefits of Pilates?

Pilates is a series of low impact exercises that help develop strong and flexible muscles. It works your whole body without pain or strain, enabling you to exercise within your own limits and progress at your own pace. You can do Pilates irrespective of your age, weight, flexibility and fitness level. The benefits of Pilates include:

Hi I’m Marietta

I’ve been active my whole life and honestly, I thought I’d become a spin instructor shouting ‘GO FASTER!’ over pounding techno music. But that isn’t how this story goes.

Chronic back pain led me to Pilates and helped me ditch my script of ‘I have a bad back’. I became a STOTT Pilates instructor and I love helping people to live pain free and enjoy life.

And fear not! I can still work you hard with a calm tone and a mat - no shouting or techno required.

Locations I travel to include Stratford, Plaistow, Bow, Hackney Wick, West Ham, East Ham, Canning Town, Manor Park, Forest Gate, and Leyton. Sessions can be in a local park or in the comfort of your own home.

  • I've been doing Pilates for six years and I've had some great teachers, but Marietta is the best yet. She's very technical, which I want for my long term health, but the classes are very easy to follow and great fun. She uses visual clues to get you into the positions and engaging the right muscles, and she gives great tips for the best alignment, even over Zoom. It's enjoyable body medicine and it's certainly working. After just a few classes, I have zero aches and pains in my back, I'm way more toned and ready for the beach!

  • I've really enjoyed Marietta's online beginners Pilates class for the last few months. She has a really relaxed teaching style which makes you feel immediately comfortable, and describes the postures and breathing techniques really well. She uses great analogies involving blueberries and marshmellows that make perfect sense in the context! Although the postures are very gentle I feel like I've had a good workout after every class and my abs can often feel it the next day! I would absolutely recommend Marietta's online classes if you're thinking about starting Pilates. It's been a brilliant introduction to Pilates for me.

  • I signed up following the birth of my second baby as I wanted to strengthen my core and generally tone back up. I've done a lot of yoga before but never really any Pilates as I didn't really get it. Doing Marietta's classes have been great and converted me. She is patient, clear, funny and an excellent motivator. In each group session I get individual attention to improve technique and am learning loads as well as feeling the benefit. I already feel stronger and my abs are back in the game 🙂 Also - I get to do the class from home with the kiddos in bed, so it works for busy parents.   • Marietta’s classes provide a space to breathe, learn and move at a pace that is both really supportive and challenging. I’ve attended Pilates classes before and felt out of my depth having not been taught the proper techniques and postures. Marietta is the polar opposite! She’s so patient at teaching us the building blocks, she’s helped strengthen me from the core out with the right tools. Plus she sends over a recording of the class for us to repeat as many times throughout the week free of charge!

I started with the 1:1 classes so I can learn the basis of Pilates, as I am a beginner and then joined the group class later. The classes are online and in a small group, Marietta uses well thought images and metaphors to help us get the movements right and are easy to follow.
